Hey guys, sorry we haven't posted in a while, things have been crazy (as always). We paid the last of our money to the Newport Apartments (thank god), having maintenance done this week and most of it should be done by Friday. Which means I need to clean more!! Aaah!! Thanks to everyone helping out, we really really appreciate it.

Thursday we're going to go visit a little lady who may be part of our new family!

False Alarm

We have to close on moday now because Phil (Joe's Boss) didn't turn a form he needed to fill out promptly enough. Bummer! Oh well!

Calling all cleaning products!

Things we need to fix up the house off the top of my head.. If you have one or more of these that you would be willing to lend us please post a comment with your name (it can be in the comment itself) and we'll be happy to take it off your hands temporarily:
2 mops (we have a wetjet but those are only good if the floor is already clean)
Various wood cleaning/ shining products
2 buckets
bleach
street fighter 4 machine (per Joe's request)
cleaning rags (bunches)

Yeahh that's all we can think of right now. Also: We will be posting the move-in date (don't know when that will be). We don't have a lot of stuff but in the event we need some help we would really appreciate it.

Finally!!

We're closing on Friday at 10AM. However, we still need to do that work on it and clean it up. You all can see it at the end of the month when we're proud of showing it off, ok? We'll have an open house!

Aloha

The end is nigh! We're not in underwriting anymore and just packaged up all of the stuff to email to our loan officer. Aah!! We're closing at the end of this week (fingers crossed) so all we need to do now is pack up the apartment, clean the house, and get the electric (it's outdated and rickety) and some plumbing work (Done by Little John of course). Not long now!! Home depot card, here I come!

Okay!

Today was pretty exciting. One of my (Molly) friends agreed to letterpress (yay! Letterpress!) our Save The Dates for us for FREE! Completely awesome. Letterpress is really expensive if you pay for it, so I'm utilizing the Art Institute facilities while I'm still around haha. Also, I talked to the lovely Deeana Freeberg in Fairfield (Yeah, we're having the wedding in Fairfield, there we'll get more for our money) and she agreed to do what she could with the flowers for no cost if her schedule permits, which is amazing as well. Ah! I'm excited, everything is coming along in all respects. We just got homeowners insurance today from Farm Bureau Financial for a very fair rate as well. Stoked! As far as I can tell, we close on Friday. Aah!

Lampson Woods

Ok so... Lampson Woods in Fairfield has a $25 deposit and a $50 fee. Holy crap!! And it's beautiful! There's a little field before the trail (Lampson is part of Fairfield's Loop Trail system) which can accommodate up to 200 people, which I don't think we'll breach. Did I mention the fee includes benches for 50 people? Nice. Dear Kansas City: You're getting our residence, let Fairfield have our wedding. Note: this isn't 100%

Woo hoo!

Ok so now my car broke down. I need to replace some valves or something, which will be close to $600... Which is way too much considering the amount of money already shoveled in to that thing. Soooo I'm currently sorting out my options. I'll probably have to send it off to oily, gassy H-E-double hockey sticks. Maybe get some money for parts. Aaaanyway, now about the house

We're going to get everything with the loan sorted out tomorrow and will HOPEFULLY close by next Friday (the 12th) Also: We are no longer getting the "fixer-upper" loan with money built in. We're instead getting an FHA-TYPE loan and putting 5% down, then spending the other 15% we would have put down on the "fixer upper" loan on actually fixing things. This way we don't have to pay interest. Yaay!

I think we're both really excited to get in to the house so we can focus on fun things. Like... I don't know... THE WEDDING?

We are now thinking of having the wedding in Fairfield, where I'm from. It's only about 4 hours away with inexpensive hotels as well as really inexpensive parks to rent out! Joe and I feel that being married outside is very important. Honestly, $1000 for a venue for 2 hours that won't accommodate both our ceremony and honeymoon is much to inexpensive. So we may head over there. For all the Burnetts and friends who don't know about Fairfield, check this out. Wonderful small town for sure.

Check back soon for more updates!

On the house

Ok, so what's going on now is that we have been switched to another loan officer.
Here's Why:
When we signed the buyer's contract, we faxed it over to the seller's agent for them to sign. We did this on the 18th of February. In that contract, we were all set to close on the house on March 4th. Obviously, that isn't happening. Our Realtor, Pam K, JUST got a call back from them TODAY. The were hanging on to the contract, God knows why. They assumed that we could continue with the loan process with a purely verbal agreement, which is not true. Our previous loan officer, Andy, who was with US bank can only go forward with the loan if we have a fully signed (including seller agent) contract. Once he has said contract, he will then take 30- 45 days to process the loan. This would be ok, since Joe nor I are going anywhere, however the Seller said that would take too long and we couldn't get the house if it took 30 days. So we need to go with another loan officer. We are now going with MidAmerican Mortgage who will take only 1-2 weeks to process the loan.
Here's Why:
U.S. Bank is a huge corporation who has a whole bunch of rules and time contingencies written in to their contracts. However, MidAmerican Mortgage is a small company and can therefore treat us like people, not numbers, and can expedite things.
Ok! Phew! Got to get back to work. We appreciate that you understand we are busy with the house, wedding planning, graduating college, applying for college, getting jobs, packing up our apartment, dealing with the truck, etc. Again, we will both keep you updated on this blog. So please, when we talk to you on the phone we want to hear how things are going with YOU.

First Post

Hi everyone! Molly here, setting up the blog. This will also serve as our home buying/ renovation updates, so if you have a question just post a comment. Over the next year and a half, we will be very busy and will be updating here as a way to keep you all updated at once as opposed to calling everyone individually. We love you and appreciate you wanting to help and/or know every change and update as soon as it happens. That's why we have this blog! Whenever something changes in our lives pertaining to the wedding or house, it will be posted here. So I'm going to say this bluntly: When we are on the phone with you, don't ask any questions regarding either. Thank you!
